Thinking Styles

I used to think: “DAMN IT! IT SHOULDN’T BE THIS WAY!” for just about every observation that I judged to be a “problem“. Now I think, It shouldn’t be this way – but it is – lol for most observations that I judge to be problems. Of course, there are still far too many things that cause me to red-line, but it’s an incremental, iterative, and continuous learning experience.

If I’m lucky enough, I might even gravitate up to this fully, non-judgmental, thought-style: “It is this way, because it got this way“. However, I don’t think I’ll ever make it into the effortless thinking realm of Buddha/Lao Tzu/Eckhart Tolle/Byron Katy:It is this way because it’s exactly the way it should be“.

How about you, dear reader? What’s your predominant thinking style? Has it been changing with age? Are you happy with it?

Hey Dude, it took me well into my 60’s to start the changeover, and even then not sure I would be in such a transition without my partner Karin, who everyday seems more like a reincarnation of Lao-Tzu. I count myself lucky… so if this going on incrementally for you, that’s great, the increments will gradually accelerate. All the best, Doug

Thanks Doug. Each increment feels a little bit more liberating, like a jailer loosening the hand cuffs. I hope there’s no such thing as regressing backwards 🙂

I read somewhere recently (probably a blog – maybe yours?) that “If you are depressed you are living in the past; if you are anxious you are living in the future; and if you are living in today, you are peaceful! i liked that.

Maybe, maybe not mine. But I love it too. It’s the whole theme behind Eckhart Tolle’s “The Power Of Now/New Earth” (which I love) and at the core of most spiritual teachings that I’ve studied!
