One-Two Punch Combo

January 7, 2011 Leave a comment

Check out this one-two punch combo on creativity and innovation (which fit together like hand and glove) that I randomly stitched together from Chris “The Long Tail” Anderson and Scott “Myths Of Innovation” Berkun:

Scary stuff, no? That’s why I think that the first and biggest obstacle to self-realization through the “create and innovate” dynamic duo is yourself, and not the inevitable downstream naysayers that will peck and gnaw away at your innards. Nevertheless, the second obstacle is huge too, especially if you work in a big, stuffy, corpricracy with an endless queue of risk-averse, (dis)approvers in the way.

Quote Mangling

December 18, 2010 1 comment

I love quotes because they pack a lot of energy into small packages without requiring a long winded and jargon filled explanation. I also like extending quotes to give another take on the wisdom imparted by the original text because I’ve learned to never believe anything 100 percent; including my own twisted and anguished thoughts. Here are some snarky Bulldozer00 quote enhancements:

  1. “When the going gets tough, the tough get going – right out the door with the cash.” (English proverb + Bulldozer00)
  2. “I don’t know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody – another key to failure is trying to piss everybody off.” (Bill Cosby + Bulldozer00)
  3. “A lot of people mistake unnecessary complexity for sophistication – and those people are usually managers.” (Dan Ward + Bulldozer00)
  4. “If you are indispensable, you’re unpromotable – but at least you know how to directly create value.” (Unknown + Bulldozer00)
  5. “I love deadlines because I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by – and the angst they instill in the managers who dictated them.” (Doug Adams + Bulldozer00)
  6. “Multitasking is not for serious work – it’s for managerial make-work.” (Bjarne Stroustrup + Bulldozer00)
  7. “I believe that there is such a thing as objective truth, but a lot of people have an objective truth that differs from mine – and those people are wrong.” (Cynthia Tucker+ Bulldozer00)
  8. “Debugging is like farting, it’s not so bad when it’s your own code – except when you crap your pants.” (Unknown + Bulldozer00)
  9. “What we need is more people to lose their temper in public – unless people in power are in the vicinity.” – (Watts Wacker + Bulldozer00)
  10. “The point of quotations is that one can use another’s words to be insulting – D’oh! and WTF?.” – (Amanda Cross+ Homer Simpson + Bulldozer00)

What quotes would you like to extend?

How dare you question my credentials, character, judgment, and integrity. – Anonymous

I think this latest Wikileaks fiasco is both serious and funny. Since the press has analyzed the seriousness of the situation to death, I’m only going to comment on the funny-ness of the event.

I find it hilarious that the press and regular “little” people like you and me seem to be shocked that U.S. government representatives would diss other world “leaders”; both allies and adversaries. As the sarcastic quote that begins this post implies, no one is special and beyond reproach, including the so-called best and brightest. Some are just better, much better, at hiding the fact that they are (OMG!) regular, fallible human beings. They fart and blame the dog; they pick their noses; they fantasize about Brad Pitt and Scarlett Johansson; they experience and express “negative” thoughts just like you and (especially) me. They just don’t get caught – usually.

Of course, I wrote this post in a fruitless attempt to dissolve the guilt that I carry around for incessantly raging against the machine.

Woodstock Refugee

November 24, 2010 4 comments

I’ve taken some flak from some prim and proper people for the dorky, woodstock-refugee-like pic I’ve posted on my LinkedIn.com profile:

(In case you’re interested, that’s actually a pic of me on Bourbon Street down in Nawlins during Mardi Gras.) One of the comments that I’ve received on this totally “unprofessional” photo is:

Are you looking for companies who want to hire clowns?

LOL! Well, yeah, I am. If I do want, or have, to start looking for a new company to work for, I don’t want to draw attention from any big and stodgy institution whose HR department members think pictures are important. You see, I think those types of orgs are probably stuck in 1920’s FOSTMA mindsets and I’d rather not spend 40+ hours a week working for them. Of course, this tactic will drastically reduce the number of opportunities available to me, but so what. I’ll take my chances and change tactics if I absolutely have to.

Since the color of the sky in my world is purple, I think that many people, including me(?) (but not you, of course), want to position themselves where they can maximize their compensation while doing as little as possible and appearing to “others” as though they are working their ass off. If, for some strange reason you believe this is true, why is that? Hell, I don’t know – that’s why I’m asking you!

But It’s Only Half Full

November 20, 2010 4 comments

If you can see through the glare reflecting off my head, check out the progressive growth in size of my martini glass collection. Of course, I still only fill the glass half way and, like Bond, I prefer my ‘tini “shaken, not stirred“.

I’m looking for a martini-shaped chalice to occupy the next slot in my collection. Know where I could find one?

Thought Criminal

November 13, 2010 4 comments

Because I frequently rail against obsolete and moldy FOSTMA practitioners and corpicracies, I was recently accused of committing “crimes of thought” by a highly judgmental colleague who worships at the altar of corparchy.

Uh, what the hell is a thought crime anyway? As usual, Wikipedia (which is always right) came to the rescue:

(In George Orwell’s 1984) The Thought Police use psychology surveillance to find and eliminate members of society who are capable of the mere thought of challenging ruling authority

Crap! I’ve been surveilled, detected, tracked, exposed, and unmasked. I just realized that I’m double hosed cuz I’m much more than a thought criminal. I’ve manifested these unholy abstract thoughts in the physical form of recorded (free) speech and broadcasted them out onto the web in a malicious attempt to infect others. I’ll never work in this town again! Yikes! It’s time to go out on the lam. Anyone got a safehouse for me?

So, how can a thought criminal ferret out a member of the Thought Police force armed with psychic surveillance devices? Geeze, what kind of kestion is that? It’s easy. Look for any dude wearing this:

Spreading Ideas

November 7, 2010 Leave a comment

In the list below, Seth Godin hits the nail on the head when he exposes the top 20 reasons why one person spreads another person’s idea. As I scanned the list, I looked for, and circled the reasons why I try to propagate my own crappy ideas. After all, being a self-centered narcissist, it’s all about me.

Notice that I didn’t circle any of the altruistic ones like the me-version of number 1: “I spread my idea because it makes me feel generous“. How about you? Why do you spread your own ideas?
