Recursive Behavior

Information hoarding by individuals and orgs used to lead to success in the past, but information sharing is one necessary but insufficient key to success today.

In this century, if the dudes in the penthouse at the top of the pyramid keep all the good stuff locked up in the unspoken name of mistrust, it’s highly likely that this anti-collaborative behavior will be recursively reproduced down the chain of command. Hell, if that behavior led to success for the corpo SCOLs and CGHs, then it will work for the DIC-force too, no?

    interesting perspective. and something I’ve been running up against lately. we have a very distinct culture of distrust and info hoarding–knowledge is power–and it has significantly effected business time and time again as the knowledge hoarders fail to share critical information at the onset of a project, resulting in a great deal of wasted effort as we travel down the wrong path.

    I have found it to be a struggle to ‘rage against the machine’ by sharing my own knowledge-base with others. there is an intrinsic fear (rightly justified by past experience) that despite my magnanimosity, the beneficiary of that gained knowledge will invariably fail to credit their new-found keys to power to it’s source, thus improving their own position of value-impression to upper management, at my expense.

    much like the struggle against ego, I have found that at times, this info-sharing can actually become a different path to success–by freely giving away what you know with those willing to openly exchange, mutual growth, and a better product, can be obtained.

      Yeah, it sux when one knows that openness and sharing are the right things to do but the stone age system conspires against it.
