Kudos To mttd
An indication that you’re improving as a blogger is if someone posts a link to one of your blog posts on Reddit.com. Some kind soul that goes by the Reddit handle of “mttd” actually did that for BD00 (thanks!).
The graphic below shows the relative spike in traffic that resulted from “mttd” acting as my benefactor. He/she posted a link to my June 1st “Agile Overload” post. Of course, the “what have you done for me lately” effect soon prevailed and traffic returned to normal shortly thereafter.

The Search For Accountability
As I’ve said several times before, WordPress.com is a sweet blogging platform. One of the many metrics that the customer-and-product obsessed WordPress team provides to its users is the list of terms that people have searched to land on your blog:
As you can see, the search term “accountability” dominates all others. WTF is up wit dat? It also looks like people want to learn more about “CSCIs, CSCs, and CSUs“. The funny ones are “lighten up francis“, “firing squad“, and “disco dancer“. I’m humbled by the fact that some people searched for BD00 directly with “site:bulldozer00.com” and “bulldozer00“. lol.
So, when are you gonna expose yourself to the world and start blogging your thoughts, feelings, and opinions? One of the tag lines of the best boss I ever had was “don’t keep it a secret“. BD00 has internalized it with the addition of “no matter how much it hurtz“.

Multi-Pronged Response
To aid bloggers who’ve signed up for the 2011 “post a day challenge“, wordpress.com e-mails out example topic ideas to stimulate bloggers’ imagination. In “The Impulse to Create”, Daryl Houston poses the question “why do you blog?“.
Hmm. I’ve asked myself that same question several times over the past couple of years. I’ve conjured up this multi-pronged response:
- To share thoughts, ideas, opinions, experiences with anyone who’s willing to listen
- To learn more about the subject I’m writing about
- To blow off steam (against imaginary BMs and BMWs)
- To make stuff up
- To manifest the unmanifested
- To move toward the peak of Maslow’s pyramid: self-actualization
How about you? Is there something you regularly do outside of family and work for your soul?
Most Days, Some Days
On most days, the daily view statistics box for this blog looks something like this:
On some days, it looks like this:
It’s the trend in stats snapshots like this latter one that thrills me – not the total number of views. When I see one and two hits on a bunch of posts, as opposed to a bunch of hits on one or two posts, it indicates that I may have actually connected with someone on some level. What it doesn’t indicate, is whether it was a positive or negative connection.
How about you and your blog? What, you don’t write down and share at least some of your experiences, thoughts, ideas, and/or opinions? Why not?
